Ghost Light at the Chicago Cultural Center, Director Dexter Bullard 2008
Plasticene invited 18 performance artists to perform a volume of an encyclopedia. I ate all of the pictures in mine (U thru Z); chewed them up, spit them out and labled them with subject headings. “United Kingdom” and “Zorastrianism” etc. I connected the topics with miniature fishing twine (like fiber optics crossing the ocean). The extra spit went into small crystal salt shakers. They held the salt of the intellectual ocean I made. In the dark they mirrored the imaginary stars, guiding my boat lamp on its way to the next topic. “Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. Water, water everywhere and how the boards did shrink!”
